  • 'Metallic Red' Nike Air Foamposite One Returns

In this latest chapter of the Nike Foamposite, the Swoosh digs back only a little over a decade to bring back a crowd favorite. While debuting in 2012, the 'Metallic Red' Air Foamposite One was at the height of the Foamposite craze and the chokehold that Nike Basketball and Nike Sportswear collectively had on the sneaker culture. After the model was resurrected in the late 2000s once the mold was recreated, it found a revived love, restoring the feeling of 1997. And as the calendar rolled over into the 2010s, the Foamposite One and Foamposite Pro hype was running on autopilot. Having already returned once during the 20th anniversary in 2017, the 'Metallic Red' color scheme returns in 2023 but with a slight twist. Unlike the Foamposite One's traditional tooling – tumbled leather comprises the eyestay, tongue accent and collar where the 1 Cent logo rests. Adding an entirely new dynamic to the near three decade old silhouette, but also has the community split. Needless to say with a couple Foamposites already in the can for the year, Nike seems to be putting the full court press on the Penny Hardaway classic. • Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low 'Medium Olive' Official Images

This is Utopia. The Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low remains a favorite amongst the Cactus Jack x Jordan Brand connection, as evident by a fifth and rumored final AJ1 Low. Since "La Flame" hooked up with the GOAT, the AJ1 has been a staple in the rollout of projects across both MJ's brand and Nike as a whole. From Mocha plays on the first AJ1 Low to a Fragment Design tri-branded banger in 2021 and a clean two-for in summer and winter of 2022, all that is left for this swan song is something for the ladies and the kids. And that's exactly what Jordan Brand is giving us in this release. Time will tell if extended sizing will be in play for the guys as well, but this black suede and Sail leather beauty is anchored by an Medium Olive reverse Swoosh – in true Travis Scott fashion (or Dennis Rodman – he has a point, you know...) and matching olive colored solid outsole. As of now, release is rumored for late-April, just in time for the warmer months ahead, so you can let the ankles breathe with some heat on your feet. Scroll through the official images below and stay with Sole-U for more details as the release draws neigh. • Fear of God Athletics Announces Collection Unveiling

Coming in April. It was late last year, December to be exact when Fear of God Athletics issued a statement on adidas Basketball's "Remember The Why" campaign and collection which raised eyebrows as it carried an aesthetic close to that of Jerry Lorenzo's Fear of God imprint but also peeled back the curtain on what has been at the time a two-year odyssey. It was December 22nd, 2020 when adidas formally revealed its partnership with Lorenzo, and since then much speculation, anticipation – often restlessness and sheer curfuffle has surrounded the partnership. But Fear of God Athletics promised the first offering of its adidas powered collection to come "in the first half of 2023". Well, it would appear that with their latest social posting that we are trending toward that trajectory. The collection, or at least part of it, is set to be unveiled on April 19th, at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. What might we see? If the teaser is any indicator, expect to see a barrage of neutral palettes and hues. Are you still invested in the adidas x Fear of God Athletics project?

  • The First Air Zoom Generation of the 20th Anniversary is Coming

Celebrating two decades of LeBron LeBron James in the 'First Game' Nike Air Zoom Generation - November 5, 2003 Despite 2023 being the 20th anniversary of LeBron James descent and simultaneous start of his meteoric rise, the 'First Game' Air Zoom Generation is experiencing its second retro release. You may recall January 2017, the initial rollout of the LeBron signature line retro that didn't really go smoothly. There was the exclusive StockX collaboration with the Cleveland Cavaliers, which featured a box from the Cavaliers' floor from their lone championship sealing season. And then there was the release via SNKRS and a scarce number of retailers. The first retro also featured a darker 'Varsity Crimson' which was more in line with the Cavs' color palette at the time. The 2023 iteration however returns to the OG blistering red jacquard mesh tooling along the quarters and collar that helped draw eyes to it on-court. Deep Midnight Navy accents wrap the entire white leather H2 Hummer inspired debut signature of LBJ; along with the golden "11-5-2003" stitched into the inner lining, signifying James's first home game in front of the Cavaliers faithful. Look for this remastered Air Zoom Generation to drop via SNKRS and select retailers on Tuesday, March 21st. Go Green! Go White! Mateen Cleaves in the 'Green Toe' Reebok Question - 2000 NCAA National Championship, Indianapolis, Indiana – April 3, 2000 Twenty-three years ago, the 'Green Toe' Reebok Question took centerstage and center court during Michigan State basketball's run to their second National Championship in school history. Since that time, the colorway has released only once but this time around, the colorway releases as part of a collegiate pack for Reebok. • Jordan Brand Reveals Summer '23 Collection

Past. Present. Future. Jordan Brand is turning up the heat for their upcoming Summer 2023 collection, and while it was revealed a while back, the ensemble of retros come in a bevy of new looks, borrowed DNA and even the return of a 2006 classic. And there is a good place to begin – with the returning 'Thunder' Air Jordan 4 Retro headlining the class. Last appearing in 2012, the release came as a holiday season standalone after years of rumors and speculation. But this version of the 'Thunder' AJ4 has a bit of an OG feel from the contouring and tooling. Also in the mix is MJ's 'Wizards' "Copper" Air Jordan 3 Retro PE. The color scheme is a remixed 'True Blue' color scheme that was given a touch-up when Jordan played with the Washington Wizards - and was an easy swap as the OG colorway re-released during that time period. Releasing 20 years after MJ's final NBA game. Borrowed heritage comes into play in the collection via the 'Black Flint' Air Jordan 13, which utilizes the color blocking of the OG 'Flint' AJ13, the 'Laney' Air Jordan 14 Retro – a play on the OG Air Jordan 14 Low; garnering the same treatment as 2022's 'Ginger' colorway which went from Low to Mid on the AJ14. And the 'Infrared' Air Jordan 7 Retro, borrowing from the 'White Infrared' Air Jordan 6; perhaps a little foreshadowing there. The collection can be seen below with its coinciding release dates. The article will be continually updated as release dates are confirmed. • Reebok Digs Into the Vault for a 1999 Question Mid

Question, where were you the last time? The last time this Reebok Question dropped, the year was 1999. That's 24 years ago – at the time Allen Iverson was in his fourth NBA season, the league also was in a lockout shortened campaign, Philadelphia was originally slated to the host the NBA's All-Star Game before it ultimately circled back three years later in 2002. "The Answer" was still two seasons away from his lone regular season Most Valuable Player nod during his historic 2000-01 run to an All-Star Game MVP and NBA Finals berth. Oh and it was before the turn of the millennium and the whole Y2K fiasco. So, where were you the last time this colorway dropped? A large contingency of today's sneakerheads weren't even alive yet ... This reissue features a supple white leather base and orange suede toe cap with blistering hits of orange comprising the eyelets, Reebok and Iverson branding found throughout. This spring-ready Reebok Question Mid is set to drop in the US on March 16th. Reebok Question Mid Footwear White/Smaora-Chalk HR1049 3. 16. 23. $170

  • Nike Revives the "Big Bubble" Air Max 1

Back from 1986. For the better part of a decade now, Nike has made it an initiative to emphasize Air Max Day, celebrating the advent of the Air Max line. And in the time since, it's taken on a thematic life all its own – from a one day celebration on March 26th, to a celebration all March long. Last spring, Nike began to open the DNA (Department of Archives) to the public, and in a public-facing declaration, we saw the first sample of the 'Big Bubble' Air Max 1. Originally released in 1986, the model had a short shelf life due to the instability of the fourth Air pillar in the unit. And the silhouette's midsole was redesigned to house three pillars within the visible bubble unit and came with a slightly reshaped and refined midsole – which for decades became the silhouette and tooling we've grown accustomed. The 'Big Bubble' retro pays close attention to the 1986 original construction – from the upper's sleekly shaped upper and the mudguard height, to the four pillar visible Air unit and OG midsole design details. Scroll for the official images below and stick close to Sole-U for the official release details for Air Max Day. • CLOT x Nike Cortez Draws Inspiration from Bruce Lee

Iconic. If you are to do a dive into the origins of Nike, you'll probably be familiar with the story of Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight starting the brand together as Blue Ribbon Sports. You'll probably also be aware of Knight selling product from the back of his van ... as well as then art student, Carolyn Davidson who created the Swoosh logo in 1971 for a mere $35 as Blue Ribbon Sports became Nike. Named after the Greek goddess of victory. Deeply engrained into the five decade-plus history of the world's most profound sneaker brand are chapters in the grand story such as these. However, there's a part to the story that some may not have recognized – enter the "Cortez". Its fabled history is one that of one of Nike's first silhouettes started as an unnamed prototype in 1967 when Bowerman and Knight were collaborating with Onitsuka Tiger. When Blue Ribbon Sports rebranded as Nike, the Cortez became front-and-center in a legal battle between the two brands, ultimately resulting in Nike winning the lawsuit and in 1972, the Cortez as we know it is born. And the rest is history, as they say. But with the stage now set for the CLOT x Nike Cortez, 51 years removed – this look takes inspiration from the famed, Bruce Lee and his iconic jumpsuit from the film Game of Death, and ironically, the matching Onitsuka Tiger Tai Chi. Adorned with a yellow leather base layer and heavy black accenting, the CLOT x Nike Cortez does the same, but encases the leather low-cut frame into a sleek black shroud – and its pulley tightening system in the heel. The collaboration is a respect to Chinese heritage – specifically Hong Kong, the birthplace of Lee but also where CLOT gained a lot of early notoriety. Release is scheduled for March 10th, exclusively through Juice, follow the link for release details. CLOT x Nike Cortez Black/Varsity Maize DZ3239-001 3. 10. 23. $150

  • Air Jordan 5 Retro 'UNC'

"The ceiling is the roof!" – 🐐 Those fabled words uttered by Michael Jordan while on the campus of the University of North Carolina has truly and organically found itself etched into the arc of the Air Jordan retros that bear the Tar Heel colors. We're no strangers to the 'UNC' palette, however the uptick in recent years from the Air Jordan 3 to the Air Jordan 1 and Air Jordan 6 – we are treated in 2023 to the UNC iteration of the Jumpman Team series with the Air Jordan 5. The heel tag is a play on the jock tag from the '90s and early '00s found on Nike uniforms, and has made its appearance on each collegiate themed Air Jordan 5 Retro beginning with the general release, to-market version of the 'Oregon' and 'Michigan' drops. And also finding a cameo role on the 2021 'UNC' Air Jordan 6 Retro. The smooth nubuck suede upper is dripped in a beautiful University Blue and features bountiful University Blue touches throughout – from the textured lining to the speckles on the shark teeth along the black midsole. And etched into the twill inner tongue tag is "SOUL." – a nod to the words of N.C. Senate Majority Leader Tony Rand (1961) who viewed UNC's competitive advantage, uniqueness and mission, defining it as "Carolina's soul". A deep cut, Easter egg and keen detail indeed. • Supreme x Nike Air Bakin

New take on a late '90s Nike Basketball classic Supreme continues their long-standing partnership with Nike and turns to a rather familiar silhouette for their latest project. While it is a first for Supreme, it is surely not the first time we've seen the Nike Air Bakin on a retro run. The Nike Basketball model had a bit of a controversial beginning back in 1997, which prompted the company to adjust the heel logo from a fiery designed Air text to the standard stacked Nike Air with the Swoosh jetting between, after drawing ire for a look that resembled "Allah" in Arabic text. From that point forward, the Air Bakin has found itself as a bit of a cult classic while famously being worn by Tim Hardaway during the same season. The model has returned on a couple of occasions; 2007, 2013/2014 and technically 2017 as the Air Bakin Posite sneaker-boot but the traditional motif has been confined to the vault since the mid-2010s. The paternal Supreme x Air Bakins come in two looks; the first is a sunset gradient upper moving from yellow to purple (toe to heel) and brings back the OG red accenting and bold black base. The latter is an all-white stark look, top-to-bottom and features a yellow set of laces which also pays homage to the 1997 original design element. Both pairs will come with an extra set of laces. Personalizing the pairs is the Supreme typeface on the heel loops, and dual-branding on the hangtag and insoles. And a stylized NYC on the heel which is a loose play on the OG banned AIR font. Release of the collaboration is set for Thursday, March 2nd in-store and online at Supreme and March 4th in Japan. Supreme x Nike Air Bakin 3. 2. 23.

  • Nike Returns an Air Flight Huarache Original

31 years later. Reggie Miller in the Nike Air Flight Huarache vs. the Boston Celtics in the Boston Garden (1992) This is not the first go round for the Nike Air Flight Huarache. Having released in multiple colorways, both original and new since its 1992 birth – the classic Nike Basketball silhouette has been donned by Scottie Pippen during the 1992 NBA All-Star Game in Orlando, also by Reggie Miller during that time period (pictured above), the model also cut its teeth on the collegiate level as it was worn by all five members of Michigan's fabled "Fab Five" as well. The upcoming re-release of the timeless Air Flight Huarache precedes the rumored release of Kobe Bryant's 'Away' player exclusive from his early days at the Swoosh. But also gives credence that the colorway is not too far away. Circling back to the OG colorway, it retains its original design, build and color blocking as designed by Tinker Hatfield and Eric Avar. A white leather base with a deep black high ankle cage that exposes the Lyon Blue and Berry sockliner bootie. Release of the OG Air Flight Huarache is expected to arrive in the spring.
