The year was 2009, and Kanye West and Nike made history. With the release of the Nike Air Yeezy, the Chicago emcee and producer became the first non-athlete to have their own signature sneaker with the brand. The silhouette was a high-cut, basketball-inspired build with DNA taken from the Air Jordan 3 and infused with Ye's own style and flair, the Air Yeezy quickly became one of the most sought after pairs of the year. And the popularity only grew a short three years later when the sequel released.
Fast forward to 2022, Ye is under the adidas banner, but has been relatively outspoken when it comes to his desire to collaborate with Jordan Brand. And the Air Yeezy 1 and 2 are garnering well within the five-figure range.
