New take on Junior's hometown team ⚾️
Since re-entering the fold in 2021 for the silhouette's 25th anniversary, Nike has kept a steady influx of Air Griffey Max 1s coming in the years that followed. And 2023 will be no different, as a new rendition on an old theme is set to drop this spring.
While many may still be clamoring (myself included) for the original look of the 'Cincinnati Reds' Air Griffey Max 1, Nike delivers a look that draws its inspiration from the Reds' away uniforms. Griffey, who desired to be closer to his family in the town he grew up in, was traded from Seattle to his father's old ball club in 2000, and effectively switched over his number from 24 to 30 and subsequently to 3. While those details are not present on the initial Griffey signature, the look still captures Junior's time in the Midwest.
With a Pure Platinum base and accenting hits of University Red and White sprinkled in, the color scheme is clean overall, and we'll have no choice but to hold firm until we get the OG look. But, be that as it may – the new look 'Reds' colorway is set to drop on MLB Opening Day, March 30th. For those in the area, you can cop and then head over to Great American Ballpark to watch the Reds host the Pittsburgh Pirates.
